DOD losing vendors: GAO

      The number of small businesses receiving contract awards from DOD has fallen by 43% from 2011 to 2020, according to a new report by the GAO.

      Small DOD vendors decreased in number from 42,723 in 2011 to 24,296 in 2020.

      The number of large DOD vendors shrunk as well.

      “The number of larger businesses receiving contract awards fell by 7.3% per year on average from 2011–2020, while the number of small businesses receiving contract awards fell by 6% per year,” GAO said.
