Less racial bias online for PPP
Black-owned small businesses were 70% more likely to obtain Paycheck Protection Program loans from online lenders rather than from traditional banks, according to a recent New York U study.
The researchers found that when small banks automated their processes, lending to Black-owned firms increased. Thus, limiting “human involvement” in loan originations can reduce apparent discrimination, the study concluded.
