NDAA local hiring amendment
The House approved an amendment to its National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal 2022 legislation that would set a preference for local hiring for military construction contractors and subcontractors. Amendment 106, introduced by Rep. Andy Kim, D-NJ, was approved by a voice vote in the House on Sept. 21.
It would require, to the extent practicable, that the Defense Dept. “shall give preference for military construction contracts to firms who certify that at least 51% of employees hired to perform the contract shall reside in the same state or within a 60-mile radius.”
It also would require that all contractors and subcontractors for military construction be licensed in the state of performance.
