Tribes appeal ANC funds
Tribal governments are appealing a judge’s decision that would allow for-profit Alaska Native Corporations to receive a share of $8 billion in federal coronavirus aid for tribes.
The tribal nations filed a notice of appeal on July 14 in the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, DC, meeting the deadline set by U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta.
Mehta previously ruled that under the CARES Act the ANCs are eligible for a portion of the funds, but he put a hold on distribution of the funds so that the tribal governments could appeal.
