SBA awards record-high $125B in EIDL loans
As of June 26, the SBA had approved more than 2 million coronavirus-related Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) to small businesses, James Rivera, associate administrator for disaster assistance, testified at a House Small Business Committee hearing recently.
“In just three months, the agency approved and disbursed nearly twice as many EIDL loans for COVID-19 as we have in the past 67 years for all disaster loans in all other disasters combined,” Rivera said.
In all its history from 1953 until the COVID-19 pandemic, the SBA had distributed a total of $20.9 billion for EIDL loans to 338,000 small businesses for hurricanes, floods and other disasters, he said.
