Five prison products to be competed at DOD
DOD’s principal director of Defense Pricing and Contracting issued a memo allowing five product categories to be competed. The categories previously were reserved for Federal Prison Industries, but are being released because the prison share of the markets exceeded 5%.
Effective April 15, the five categories to be competed are:
- 7125 (Cabinets, Lockers, Bins, Shelving);
- 8105 (Bags and Sacks);
- 8405 (Outerwear, Men's);
- 8415 (Clothing, Special Purpose); and
- 8420 (Underwear and Nightwear, Men's).

Comment period extended for NASA small biz proposal
NASA has extended the deadline to April 24 for receiving comments on its plan to order grant and financial assistance recipients to obtain at least one bid from a small and/or minority-owned business, women’s business enterprise or a firm in a labor-surplus area. NASA said it expects more contracts to be awarded to such firms under its plan.

DOL proposed rule on govcon discrimination
DOL’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs has proposed a new rule to modify the procedures and standards for agencies to follow in enforcing employment opportunity in federal contracting. The procedures involve issuing pre-enforcement notices and securing compliance through conciliation. Comments are invited by April 21.
