E-Commerce concerns aired

The GSA’s “Commercial Platforms” initiative is a bold change that could have a big impact on federal buying, according to a new report from the GWU Law School that examines the pros and cons of the approach.

The e-commerce online marketplaces are expected to have total annual sales in the $6 billion range.

As a “radical departure” from tradiitional practices, the initiative brings a number of risks to the government due to essentially “outsourcing the selection of available sources to private providers of electronic platforms,” the report said.
