FBI HQs in play again
Congress has put the Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters building project back in play again. The consolidated spending bill requires the General Services Administration to develop a plan for a new FBI headquarters within the Washington, DC region within 90 days.
DC, Maryland and Virginia are competing again for the multi-billion-dollar project.
In 2018, Emily Murphy, who headed the GSA under President Donald Trump, canceled the longstanding plan to relocate the FBI and said the agency would stay in its current location across from the Trump International Hotel. The GSA Inspector General said Murphy’s testimony on her decision was “incomplete” and critics said she downplayed the president’s role.
DC Mayor Muriel E. Bowser is promoting several DC locations including Poplar Point, Buzzard Point, or the former St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Landover or Greenbelt, MD, or Springfield, VA, are other contenders according to the Washington Post.
