More details on veteran certs
The Small Business Administration announced updates in its plans to certify veteran-owned small businesses for federal contracting.
The plans include:
- Firms verified by the Veterans Affairs Dept.’s Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE) as of Jan. 1, 2023 will be automatically granted certification by SBA for the remainder of the firm’s eligibility period;
- All firms verified by VA as of the Jan. 1, 2023 transfer date will receive a one-year extension to their eligibility. This gives veterans an extra year to get recertified under the new SBA system;
- New applicants certified by SBA after Jan. 1, 2023, will receive the standard three-year certification period;
- Under the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2021, self-certified SDVOSBs (service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses) are granted a one-year grace period for obtaining SBA certification, until Jan. 1, 2024. During the grace period, the SDVOSBs may rely on self-certification to compete for non-VA SDVOSB set-asides. Self-certified SDVOSBs that apply for SBA certification during the grace period will maintain eligibility for set-asides until the SBA makes a final decision; and
- Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, both SDVOSBs and VOSBs will need to be certified to compete for federal contracting set-asides, unless an SBA decision is pending.
