Buy American hikes effective on Oct 25

A “Buy American” final rule issued in March 2022 went into effect on Oct. 25, raising thresholds for domestic content in procurements by the federal government, with some exceptions.

Under the final rule, the domestic content threshold was raised to 60%, up from 55%, on Oct. 25.

On Jan. 1, 2024, the domestic content threshold will increase to 65%.

And on Jan. 1, 2029, the threshold will rise to 75%.

The final rule also created a “fallback threshold” at the former level of 55% for products or construction materials that are not available or unreasonably expensive.
