New chief for SBA’s SBICs
The SBA’s Office of Innovation and Investment (OII)--which runs the SBIC program--has a new leader in Bailey DeVries, who recently was appointed SBA’s Associate Administrator for the OII.
Her post was one of the last senior positions at SBA to be filled, and industry stakeholders recently testified that staffing shortages in the office were “severe,” according to Rep. Sharice Davids, who chaired a House Small Business subcommittee hearing on SBICs on Oct. 27.
In FY2020, SBICs made 2,533 financings to 1,063 small businesses (including 262 owned by women, veterans, or minorities, or are in lower income areas), averaging $1.9 million each.
