Shutdown averted...at least until Dec. 11
Congress approved a continuing resolution on Sept. 30 to fund U.S. government operations through Dec. 11, avoiding a shutdown by several hours.
The vote in the House was 277-151, with 151 Republicans against and 91 Republicans in favor. All 186 Democrats voted in favor.
The Senate earlier in the day approved the bill in a 78-20 vote, with more than half of the GOP senators in favor. The 20 “no” votes were all from Republicans.
Conservative lawmakers had threatened a shutdown for weeks in an effort to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
