DFARS change eases SBIR reporting

The Defense Dept. is proposing an amendment to the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement that exempts some Small Business Innovation Research contract holders from reporting requirements. The exemption would apply until Oct. 1, 2020.

It implements a provision in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal 2016.

The exemption only applies to certified cost and pricing data requirements for contracts, subcontracts, or modifications of contracts or subcontracts, valued at less than $7.5 million awarded to a small business under a technical merit selection procedure and a broad agency announcement in the SBIR program.

The government estimates that about 1,200 contracts were awarded under those criteria in the last three years.
