House passes small biz bills

      The House on June 8 approved five bills aimed at assisting small businesses and two bills that would strengthen rules to identify small business fraud.

      The bills, which go before the Senate next, include:

• HR 7670: Establishes reporting for the Women-Owned Small Business program on value of awards, number of participants, ineligible awards, and more;
• HR 5879: Clarifies that the HUBZone price evaluation preference applies to task orders;
• HR 7694: Agencies must consider a vendor’s prior compliance with subcontracting plans, in some cases, when evaluating past performance;
• HR 7622: Allows Small Business Development Centers to help small firms with apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeships and other job training; and
• HR 7664: Directs SBDCs and Women’s Business Centers to assist graduates from career programs.

      The two bills aimed at reducing fraud are HR 7352 and HR 7334. They would extend the statute of limitations for Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loan fraud prosecutions, respectively, to 10 years.
