Native-owned shut out of PPP: Cantwell
Native-owned small businesses are being denied PPP loans because they don’t meet the SBA’s documentation requirements,” Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-WA, said at a Senate Small Business & Entrepreneurship hearing. The hearing was on Dilawar Syed’s nomination as deputy SBA administrator. He agreed to explore creating a pilot program to address the concerns.
Under treaties, the tribal members do not file tax returns and do not have EINs, which are required for PPP applications, Cantwell said, adding that about 1,000 people are affected.
