HUBZ maps frozen until 2023

SBA extends redesignated areas for 18 more months

The Small Business Administration has extended the freeze on HUBZone maps for an additional 18 months, from Dec. 31, 2021 to June 30, 2023.

The SBA published a direct final rule establishing the new deadline to comply with a provision in the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act.

Congress, in that provision, ordered that certain small firms in HUBZone redesignated areas as of 2018 would maintain their HUBZone status until the HUBZone map is updated to reflect the results of the 2020 Census.

SBA previously froze the HUBZone map until Dec. 31, 2021. However, Census data release was pushed back to December 2022, making it necessary to extend the freeze on the HUBZone map.

The extension will go into effect automatically on June 21 unless SBA receives significant negative comments by June 4.
