Vendor self-assessments

The General Services Administration’s policy office recently issued an alert to contracting officers to advise them on federal contractor self-assessments that can be used for the Contractor Performance Assessment System (CPARS).

A contracting officer may request, but not require, the assessments in the post-award stage. The alert provides guidance and a sample request letter.

Why should a contracting officer make such a request? GSA’s answer: It “may reduce the back and forth during the 60-day period contractors have to respond to a CPARS notification following the Assessing Official’s evaluation in the system,” the alert states.

GSA continued: “A contractor actively tracking its performance may have fewer performance issues. If nothing else, editing someone else’s work is much easier and faster than creating an evaluation from scratch.”
