Defense Dept. orders “tailored” acquisitions
The Defense Department updated its acquisition approach with a new guidance document for its acquisition staff that emphasizes tailoring a buying process to the type of product or service involved.
The 154-page Jan. 7 memo titled Instruction 5000.02 - Operation of the Defense Acquisition System spells out the new approach.
The updated instruction cancels the interim guidance of November 2013, Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, said in a news release.
