CR expected in Congress
Congress is expected to approve a Continuing Resolution (CR) that would keep the government open after the 2022 fiscal year ends on Sept. 30, with the CR expected to continue beyond the November election to possibly December. The measure likely would set funding at the previous year’s level and not allow new programs to start.
Holding up the discussions is opposition to a plan by Sen. Joe Manchin, D-WV, to permit energy projects. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, had agreed to include the plan in the CR to gain Manchin’s support for the Inflation Reduction Act.
Other issues for the CR include possible aid for Ukraine, COVID, Monkeypox and natural disasters.
