DOL rule on minimum wage

The Labor Dept. has published a proposed rule to implement President Joe Biden’s recent Executive Order to raise the hourly minimum wage for federal contractors.

Under the proposed rule, workers on covered federal contracts must be paid $15.00 per hour, effective Jan. 30, 2022. The current minimum wage for federal vendors is $10.95.

Starting on Jan. 1, 2023 and continuing each year, the wage will rise with inflation.

Comments are due by Aug. 23.

For covered tipped workers, the minimum cash wage will be $10.50 per hour beginning Jan. 30, 2022.
