Time running out for PPP forgiveness
Borrowers who received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans in the first period in which they were available--starting in April 2020--are facing deadlines for filing applications for loan forgiveness starting this month.
According to the Small Business Administration, borrowers can apply for forgiveness once the amount for which they are seeking forgiveness is spent, any time up to the maturity date of the loan. If borrowers do not apply for forgiveness within 10 months after the last day of the covered period, then PPP loan payments are no longer deferred.
For borrowers who took out PPP loans in April 2020, the deadlines for filing for forgiveness begin this month, according to Seyfarth Shaw LLP.
