Supply chain advice to DOD
The House Armed Services Committee’s Defense Critical Supply Chain Task Force has recommended six legislative actions for the fiscal 2022 defense authorization bill to protect the supply chain and industrial base.
The task force made numerous recommendations, including advising Congress to require the Defense Dept. to take these actions:
- Set up an internal supply chain risk assessment and mitigation system;
- Map the defense supply chain using commercial tools within a year;
- Reduce reliance on critical supplies from adversarial countries;
- Improve the workforce by establishing a public/private coalition with industry, educational organizations, and other federal agencies and partners;
- Leverage the National Technology and Industrial Base forum to shape policy and partnerships with allies; and
- Fully address several supply chain security issues related to rare earth elements.
