Gov-named HUBZ in IL
The SBA announced it was admitting the first set of Governor-Designated Covered HUBZones into the HUBZone program.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker designated five additional counties, mostly in rural areas, along with 30 additional census tracks spanning the length of the state, to create 35 new HUBZones.
Such zones are now permitted under a law passed by Congress in 2018 and a regulation that went into effect in January 2020. Under the rule, a governor may submit one petition per year to request new HUBZones, including Opportunity Zones. The SBA then considers whether the proposed zones meet HUBZone program objectives.
