Category managers set goals
Category managers for 10 broad categories of common spending have plotted out goals for saving money and reducing duplicative contracts.
The 10 areas under category management and the lead agencies in carrying out President Trump’s Management Agenda in those categories are:
- Facilities & Construction, $81 billion, GSA
- Professional Services, $72 billion, GSA
- Information Technology, $57 billion, GSA
- Medical, $44 billion, DOD & VA
- Transportation & Logistics, $29 billion, DOD
- Industrial Products & Services, $11 billion, GSA
- Travel, $8 billion, GSA
- Security & Protection, $5 billion, DHS
- Human Capital, $5 billion, OPM
- Office Management, $2 billion, GSA
Cost savings are forecasted at $15 billion in fiscal 2018, $17 billion in fiscal 2019 and $18 billion in fiscal 2020. Additional savings of $19.3 billion were achieved in fiscal 2016-2017, according to the president’s management agenda.
The percentage of reduction in duplicative contracts was 3% in fiscal 2017, and the aim is to cut by another 10% this year, 12% next year and 13% in fiscal 2020.
The number of individuals trained in category management would double to 1,540 by 2020.
