SBA IG audits CARES grants

The SBA passed inspection with its Office of Inspector General for the agency’s handling of $265 million in entrepreneurial development grants under the CARES Act.

In March 2020, Congress approved the CARES Act coronavirus aid package, including grants for several SBA programs: $192 million for Small Business Development Corporations, $48 million for Women’s Business Centers and $25 million for online training.

The SBA OIG found that SBA awarded the grants properly. However, the auditors also recommended that SBA more clearly define the performance goals and set targets.
