DOL prepares overtime rule
Workers earning up to $35K to be eligible
The Labor Dept. announced a proposed new rule to make more than a million additional American workers eligible for overtime. Currently, employees in certain jobs paid up to $23,660 a year ($455 a week) are eligible for overtime if they work more than 40 hours per week. The salary level was set in 2004.
Under the proposed rule, overtime eligibility would extend to such workers making up to $35,308 per year ($679 a week).
The proposed rule has not been published in the Federal Register yet. Once published there, public comments will be invited.
