Dem Small Biz panelists offer wish list
The Democratic minority members of the House Small Business Committee put together a wish list of improvements for the Small Business Administration in response to its fiscal 2019 budget request.
For 8(a) and 7(j), they advised more funding to meet the increased demand for technical services and to expand outreach in order to reverse the decline in participation. They also recommended dedicated funding for the Women-Owned Small Business program to maintain its integrity and its participation.
For the HUBZone program, the Democrats said better metrics are needed so that Congress can determine what reforms to make. Also, they want more oversight.
The SBA needs more staffing to provide more education and services to veterans and more Procurement Center Representatives, the Democrats said.
The impact of the wish list is likely to be slight. Since the GOP is the majority in Congress, Republicans have the upper hand on legislative matters.
