House OKs HUBZ appeals at SBA OHA

The House approved HR 8229, the “Parity for HUBZone Appeals Act, which was developed by the House Committee on Small Business, committee chair Rep. Nydia Velazquez announced.

The bill directs the Small Business Administration to issue regulations within a year to grant its Office of Hearing and Appeals jurisdiction over HUBZone status appeals. Previously, it was the SBA’s Assoc. Admin of the Office of Government Contracting & Business Development.

The purpose of the legislation is to have parity between the HUBZone program and the programs for women-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small firms.

The bill is one of four passed by the House that were promoted by the small business panel. The other three bills that passed concerned Community Advantage loan program, assistance for small manufacturers and credit risk management improvement.
