Six-month CR appears likely

“Damage to military” warning

Congress appears to be moving toward approving a Continuing Resolution that would fund the federal government until March 31, 2017.

The goal is to give more time to President-elect Donald Trump and the new administration to have more input into the process.

Conservative Republicans supporting the CR also are hopeful of preparing a more conservative spending bill that would not be subject to a veto by President Obama.

Defense officials and defense committee lawmakers have warned that a six-month budget would hurt military operations.

Backers of a CR “will do great damage to the military and our ability to defend the nation,” Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, told Roll Call.

Correction:

In the Nov. 4 article, “ASBL lawsuit denied,” the article stated that the first time the 23% small business goal was met was in fiscal 2013. Actually, it was met for the first time in fiscal 2005. We regret the error.
