Judges block Fair Pay, overtime rules
Two judges in Texas have issued nationwide temporary injunctions blocking two recent regulations--the “Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces” rule and the Labor Department’s new overtime rule.
On Nov. 22, a District Court judge in Sherman, TX, ordered a preliminary injunction preventing the overtime rule from going into effect on Dec. 1. The rule applies to all businesses with $500,000 or more in annual revenues.
And on Oct. 25, in the same court, another judge stopped most provisions of the “Fair Pay” rule from going into effect on Oct. 25. Starting April 2017 the rule would apply to contracts of $500,000 or more.
The injunctions are not permanent, but the implementations are halted while the courts consider the cases. Both regulations are believed at risk of being canceled by the new conservative GOP administration.
