SBA expands size standards

50,000 more "small" firms

      The Small Business Administration published two new proposed rules to expand small business size standards in 113 industries in eight sectors. The rules would make about 50,000 more firms eligible for federal small business set-asides.

      The covered industry sectors are:

  • Information;
  • Construction;
  • Transportation/Warehousing;
  • Finance and Insurance;
  • Real Estate/ Rental and Leasing;
  • Agriculture/Forestry/Fishing/Hunting; --Mining/Quarrying/Oil & Gas; and
  • Utilities.

      The proposed rules are part of the five-year comprehensive reviews of small business size standards required by law.

      Comments are due by Dec. 1
