Senate passes NDAA
On Sept. 18, the Senate approved its version of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2018.
The House passed its version in July, and lawmakers will form a joint committee to draft a final version.
The $700 billion authorization exceeds budget caps set under a 2011 bipartisan agreement. It also includes more than 100 amendments, including a number of small business amendments.
It includes:
- A ban on Kaspersky Lab products on Defense Dept. systems;
- Creation of a $250 million Technology Modernization Fund;
- The OPEN Government Data Act, which makes government data machine-readable by default; and
- A split in the DOD’s chief information officer’s duties into two jobs.
