RFP issued to replace DUNS #s
The General Services Administration is looking for vendors that can replace the longstanding “DUNS” number identifier of contractors and grantees with a nonproprietary form of validation.
The agency on Aug. 31 published a solicitation for “entity validation services” for its System for Award Management (SAM.gov) and Integrated Award Environment for commercial, nonprofit and government entities.
A pre-proposal webinar will be held on Sept. 10. Questions may be submitted by Sept. 19 and bids are due Oct. 1.
The government has used Dun & Bradstreet’s Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) to identify federal contractors since 1994. The current DUNS contract is expiring this year.
However, advocates of transparency have been urging the government to adopt open source standards that make it easier to store and share data, and to avoid proprietary systems.
GSA previously issued two requests for information about the upcoming procurement. The new contract will have a base period of one year with four additional one-year options.
