Big contracts, small vendors

MRFS, FirstSource update

Two $2 billion-plus federal multiple-award contracts with set-asides for small businesses are moving forward with recent developments.

One is the General Services Administration’s Maintenance Repair Facility Supplies (MRFS) acquisition vehicle and the other is the Homeland Security Dept.’s FirstSource III opportunity.

MRFS Supplies

The GSA recently awarded Blanket Purchase Agreements on the “MRFS Purchasing Channel” to 26 small businesses and four other vendors. The BPAs are for government buys of maintenance, repair, janitorial and sanitation products.

The MRFS combines GSA’s Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) and Janitorial and Sanitation (JanSan) multiple-award contracts into a single multiple-award MRFS contract.

The government currently spends about $2.8 billion a year on MRFS supplies.

GSA officials said the consolidation into the single MRFS contract makes things more convenient for buyers and contractors. The deal also meets the government’s goals for small and small disadvantaged business contracting.

Here are the 26 firms awarded MRFS contracts:

Access Products Inc. (dba Imaging Systems)
American Sanitary Products
Cartridge Savers Inc.
Coronado DC
CPSS

Kipper Tool Co.

FirstSource III

DHS recently announced it intends to issue a FirstSource III multiple-award contract for IT commodities and related Value-Added Reseller services.

To date, FirstSource II has generated $2.7 billion in contracts for 41 vendors, including 31 small businesses. That includes $1.2 billion for HUBZone firms and $735 million for EDWOSBs, according to Bloomberg Government.
