USWCC blasts Category Mgt
Alleges a “conflict” with small biz regulations
The U.S. Women’s Chamber of Congress is calling on President Joe Biden and Congress to take actions to protect small businesses from what the chamber is calling the “unregulated” and “anti-competitive” Category Management contracting initiatives.
“The use of Best-In-Class contracting vehicles under the guise of Category Management is driving small businesses out of the federal marketplace,” stated the chamber in a recent report.
The group contends that Best-in-Class contracts conflict with federal regulations designed to protect small business access to contracts.
“The unregulated, anti-competitive acquisition model of Category Management through Best-In-Class contracts using tiered supplier rating scales contradicts the requirements of 15 U.S.C. §644(e)(1),” the report stated. General Services Administration officials were not immediately available for comment.
The chamber quotes GSA data indicating that the number of federal suppliers is down. (See related story)
