Agency reorganizations
In an April 12 memo from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), federal agencies were ordered to develop plans to eliminate unneeded government programs and reduce the federal workforce.
Those plans are due on June 30.
Some department leaders--at USDA, Commerce, Homeland Security and Justice--said they are emphasizing customer service instead of personnel cuts in their plans, according to recent reports.
At the Interior Dept., as many as 50 senior career executives have been reassigned recently.
