Busy 4Q forecasted
July 1 begins the fourth quarter of the government’s fiscal year 2020, which looks to be as busy as previous fourth quarters, according to recent figures from Cameron Leuthy, senior analyst with Bloomberg Government.
In fiscal 2019, the government obligated 30% of its spending in the fourth quarter. HUD, Interior and State spent more than 50% of their total obligations in the fourth quarter, and DOD spent $120 billion in the quarter.
The government spent $94 billion on acquisitions in September 2019 alone, of which 29% went to small businesses, Leuthy told Federal News Network.
His predictions for fourth quarter fiscal 2020 procurement include:
- For professional services, $30 billion obligations from defense, and $20 billion civilian;
- For IT, $27 billion obligations from defense and $17 billion obligations from civilian agencies;
- For research and development, $27 billion from defense and $3 billion from civilian.
