W-O-S-B or ‘Wozbee’?
You say tom-a-to. I say tom-AH-to.
Similarly, some people say W-O-S-B for the Small Business Administration’s Women-Owned Small Business program.
Others are calling it “Wozbee.”
Let’s call the whole thing a linguistic hot potato that possibly only small business federal contractors have any hope of solving.
Speakers from various organizations, including the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers, have verbally referred to the WOSB program as the “W-O-S-B” program, pronouncing each capital letter. See the video at https://bit.ly/2EMKwe7. Industry figures including government contracting attorney Steven Koprince also have referred to it in this way (https://bit.ly/2IgaG9Z).
But in a recent hearing hosted by a House Small Business subcommittee, Robb Wong, the SBA’s associate administrator for government contracting and business development, repeatedly called it the “Wozbee” program. Watch at https://bit.ly/2W7qxkb at 41:37, for example.
