Final rule for vendor infosec

A new final rule orders basic safeguards for federal contractor systems that process, store or transmit federal contract information.

The rule was published May 16 in the Federal Register. The basic safeguards include 15 security control requirements that go into effect on June 15.

The controls include limiting access to authorized users, verifying identities of authorized users, periodically scanning the systems and updating malicious code protection mechanisms.
