IG audits AK Native contracts
Auditors say the Energy Department is falling short in managing contracts to Alaska Native corporations.
The DOE inspector general audited 12 sole source contracts to Alaska Native corporations.
In one case, the IG said DOE had awarded a $458 million sole source contract to an Alaska Native firm that appeared to conflict with 8(a) rules.
In three other cases, DOE could not prove it had obtained required eligibility documents from the SBA. Also, DOE did not always properly monitor compliance with limitations on subcontracting.
DOE managers did not dispute the finding.
