COVID-19 federal contracting rises to $10.7B
COVID-19 federal contracting is heating up, with reports of at least $10.7 billion in obligations since February.
The Army Corps of Engineers announced a $5 billion contract modification in support of President Trump’s declaration of a national COVID-19 emergency. Three small businesses--Martek Global Services Inc. of Bethesda, MD; Red Cedar Corp. of Brentwood, TN and Strategic Initial Outfitting Transition of Anchorage, AK--were the small businesses among the 7 companies awarded the contract. In addition, an April 16 report by MeriTalk market research firm said that federal agencies have spent more than $5.7 billion on COVID-19 related contracts since February, based on FPDS data.
COVID-19 federal spending from April 7 to April 16 alone totaled $2.3 billion, MeriTalk’s report said.

DOD sees 3-month delay in acquisitions
DOD officials anticipate a three-month delay in most of its Major Defense Acquisition Program, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We believe there will be a three-month impact that we can see right now. So we’re looking at schedule delays and inefficiencies and so forth,” Ellen Lord, DOD’s chief acquisition official, told reporters on April 20.
