Funds for sustainability
New DOE funds available
Energy Dept. officials in recent weeks have announced new Bipartisan Infrastructure Act funding available for net-zero emissions, clean energy and sustainability programs likely to benefit small business federal contractors and other small firms.
Here are some of the major funding opportunities:
- AFFECT Program: $250 million is available to help federal agencies implement energy efficient and net-zero buildings. The program is called AFFECT (Assisting Federal Facilities with Energy Conservation Technologies).
- Smart Manufacturing: $50 million is available to states to ensure that smart manufacturing technologies and high-performance computing are more accessible to small and medium-sized manufacturing firms. The program is called the State Manufacturing Leadership Program.
- Clean Energy: DOE recently awarded $68 million to 53 small businesses in 23 states developing clean energy technologies under the SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Tech Transfer) programs. See the list of recipients at https://bit.ly/3mc57RR.
- Tribal clean energy: DOE is distributing $50 million for clean energy deployment on tribal lands. Indian Tribes, including Alaska Native corporations, Intertribal Organizations, and Tribal Energy Development Organizations are encouraged to apply.
- Advanced Energy & Recycling: $750 million is available for the Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Recycling Grant Program for small- and medium-sized manufacturers to produce or recycle property for clean energy supply chains in energy communities.
