Congress OKs $1.1 trillion for U.S. government
The House and Senate have approved the fiscal 2015 Omnibus Appropriations bill that provides discretionary funding for the federal government--with the exception of the Homeland Security Department--through the current fiscal year.
The 1,600-page bill includes full appropriations legislation and funding for 11 of the 12 annual appropriations bills through Sept. 30, 2015.
Homeland Security is funded in the legislation under a temporary continuing resolution, effective until Feb. 27, 2015. That funding was made temporary because conservative GOP members hope to strip funding for President Obama’s immigration order by then.
The package also contains $5.4 billion for emergency ebola funding.
The House and Senate had little time to debate the package as it was released just days before the votes, under threat of a government shutdown.
The Small Business Administration fared well in the bill, according to a summary released by Rep. Hal Rogers, R-KY, chair of the House Appropriations Committee.
The bill fully funds the small business loan program at $195 million and the small business disaster relief program at $187 million. It also increases funding for the SBA’s entrepreneurial programs by $24 million above fiscal year 2014, Rogers’ statement said.
