Is small biz data too limited?
Federal data collected on small business contracting and subcontracting is too limited, according to several groups who testified to a House panel.
While the Small Business Administration publishes an annual Procurement Scorecard, those measures are incomplete, the witnesses told a House Small Business subcommittee.
SBA scorecards would be improved if they included the number of small firms winning contracts each year, said Anne Crossman, for Women Impacting Public policy, and Karen Ward, for the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce.
Ward cited a unique vendor report from the Federal Procurement Data System showing that the number of small business government suppliers declined by 36,000 from fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2014. That and other detailed information should be in SBA scorecards, she said.
No SBA officials testified at the hearing.
