Congress has a Dec. 11 deadline
Congress must act quickly within the next few days to avoid a government shutdown when the current budget resolution expires on Dec. 11.
Several hurdles have emerged that might cause delays in approving an omnibus spending bill. Those include attempts to prevent Syrian and Iraqi refugees from entering the United States. There also may be efforts to repeal “Obamacare” and defund Planned Parenthood.
Meanwhile, Congress must deal with federal transportation funding expiring on Dec. 4. Congress previously approved a two-week highway appropriation before Thanksgiving. Another short-term bill is anticipated.
