Set-Aside Alert news analysis:
Shutdown if no deal by Dec. 7?
The government is facing a possible shutdown risk if Congress does not finish its fiscal 2019 appropriations by Dec. 7, when a temporary funding resolution expires.
President Trump in recent months has threatened to veto appropriations and risk a shutdown if there is no money for a border wall with Mexico.
On Nov. 11, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, said that Democrats are very concerned about Attorney General Jeff Session’s resignation, and Trump’s replacement appointment of Matthew Whitaker, due to apparent conflicts of interest and constitutional issues. Whitaker now oversees Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 elections.
Democrats may tie their support for a budget deal to protections for Mueller, but expect to avoid a shutdown, Schumer said.
