‘Hidden gem’ NAICS codes

Are there “hidden gem” industries among the small business professional services expiring contracts in 2016 and 2017?

A possible way to identify them is to compare the aggregate value of the contracts in an industry, divided by the number of actions. That provides the average value per contract action.

The average value per action in IT industries was $536,000, based on Set-Aside Alert’s analysis. In R&D industries it was $508,000.

That measure gives an idea of what an average contract award might be worth in that industry.

It is not a perfect indicator, as some actions may be modifications, notices, etc. Even so, some of those high-average-value industries may be “hidden gems.”

From a database of $18.3 billion in small business professional services contracts expiring in calendar 2016 and 2017, Set-Aside Alert identified a number of industries with high average values per action. We looked at non-IT and non-R&D industries because we already know IT and R&D are high in average value per action.
