IT, R&D lead industries for small business prof’l services contracts
At a time of rapid change in technology, it is probably not surprising that the most lucrative potential opportunities in small business professional services federal contracting in 2016 and 2017 are in information technology services, according to Set-Aside Alert’s latest research.
IT services potential opportunities totaled $6.6 billion, and comprised 36% of all small business professional services potential opportunities in calendar 2016 and 2017, our research showed.
In second place were research and development services, totaling $4.7 billion and comprising 26% of the whole.
Administrative services and consulting services are powerhouses as well, with $3.1 billion in potential opportunities. They made up 17% of the total.
Also making a strong showing were architectural and engineering services, totaling $2.6 billion and comprising 14% of the whole.
“Other” services was next, with $899 million in potential opportunities. It was 5% of the total.
The remaining services groups each made up less than 2% of the total.
Set-Aside Alert’s research
Set-Aside Alert put together a database of $18.3 billion in small business professional services contracts expiring in calendar 2016 and 2017. The data was sourced from the Federal Procurement Data System.
We refer to those expiring contracts as potential opportunities because many are likely to be recompeted when they expire. Approximately $11.4 million of those contracts are set-asides.
