Velazquez calls SBA unresponsive
At a recent hearing, Rep. Nydia Velazquez, D-NY, who chairs the House Small Business Committee, expressed dissatisfaction not only with the Small Business Administration’s management shortcomings, but also with the SBA’s lack of responsiveness to the committee’s inquiries about such concerns.
“I would like to express my deep disappointment in the SBA’s lack of responsiveness in response to this committee’s inquiries regarding the Women-Owned Small Business contracting program and the SCORE program,” Velazquez said at an Oct. 16 hearing.
The committee sent a bipartisan letter to SBA Associate Administrator Robb Wong on June 18 regarding those programs, but to date has not received any response or any indication of when a response would be forthcoming, Velazquez said.
“SBA has unreasonably delayed implementing the women’s certification process, a process that is required by law,” Velazquez said. “While this delay is troubling, equally concerning is SBA’s refusal to provide this committee with answers to its legitimate oversight questions regarding this program.”
In addition, the Investigations subcommittee submitted questions to SBA Associate Administrator Allen Gutierrez in July regarding problems with the SCORE program and has received no response, she said.
SBA officials were not immediately available to comment.
