GOP Rep. McCarthy’s in-laws in fraud case

The in-laws of Republican House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, were awarded $7.6 million in small disadvantaged business federal contracts based on dubious claims of Native American ancestry, a Los Angeles Times investigation found. Many were no-bid contracts. The company, Vortex Construction, is owned by McCarthy’s wife’s brother and employs his father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law. The Times found no evidence that McCarthy was directly involved.
